Ocean Universal in Cairns has a solid spearfishing range. Makes sense — the store traded as Spearfishing Superstore, so spearo gear is still what they're known for.
The range includes rail spearguns, camo wetsuits, carbon and fibreglass fins, low-volume masks, weight belts, floats, dive knives, and spearfishing accessories. Gear is suited to tropical waters — not southern gear that doesn't suit FNQ.
The name changed to Ocean Universal because the business had already added scuba and freediving equipment over the years. But spearfishing gear is still there. It's still the backbone of the business.
Staff are FNQ spearfishers and advise on what works on Great Barrier Reef spots.
